We’re moving!

The museum closed several months before the start of renovations so that the collections could be properly prepared and packed for the move to temporary storage. There was an enormous amount of preparatory work to do. Works had to be checked, documented, restored, repaired and packed up before transport. Dust had to be removed from the paintings and the more fragile works were taken care of by specialised restorers. The drawings were placed in specially designed conservation boxes, photographed and reclassified. All the works were carefully prepared for transport in accordance with the requirements for each piece, both type and dimension.

Makeover of the works

In preparation for the reopening in 2016, several of Henner’s paintings as well as ceramics and metal sculptures were restored during this time. The museum took advantage of the months of closure, undertaking research to gain further knowledge and understanding of the works and Jean-Jacques Henner’s collections, and increase the documentation available.

Rediscovery of archives

Finally, 2014 was the year of the archives: Jean-Jacques Henner’s private archives, held at the museum, were fully classified in accordance with recommendations by the Ministry of Culture’s network, "Archives en musées" (Museum Archives). The great wealth of these archives can now be better appreciated and disseminated through publications or cultural programming.
