This work is a representative example of the veiled profile heads painted by Henner.

The figure is framed at mid-body and set against a bare background. A thick red veil covers the head of the young woman, who is turned to the left. This painting is reminiscent of Henner's most famous fantasy head, Fabiola (Salon 1885), a widely reproduced but now lost work.
