Self-portrait, replica of the one in the Uffizi Museum

This self-portrait shows a 48-year-old artist proud of his success. Henner was present at the Salon, exhibited at the Musée du Luxembourg and had enjoyed a certain popularity since L'Alsace. Elle attend (1871). He wears the rosette of the Légion d'honneur on the reverse of his collar, obtained in 1873.

This painting, which Henner kept in his studio, is an inverted replica of the one the Uffizi Museum in Florence commissioned from him in 1873 so that his portrait would be

[...] preserved[e] forever in this Pantheon of painting.
