GEORGE SAND TRIO

The George Sand Trio, made up of violinist Virginie Buscail, cellist Diana Ligeti and pianist Anne-Lise Gastaldi, has played in some of the world's greatest concert halls and festivals, from La Folle Journée in Nantes to La Fenice in Venice. Its repertoire spans 250 years of music, from Beethoven, Debussy, Haydn, Mozart, Ravel, Schubert and Schumann to Noriko Baba, Michael Jarrell, Mauro Lanza and Gérard Pesson, who have written specifically for the Trio. to Noriko Baba, Michael Jarrell, Mauro Lanza and Gérard Pesson, who have written specifically for the Trio). The three musicians are keen to promote works such as the trios by Lili Boulanger and Marie Jaëll, which the trio premiered.
The trio's discography has won several awards, including ffff in Télérama and 5 diapasons.

Trio George Sand likes to construct programmes that illustrate an era and a personality. The musicians build bridges between the arts, particularly between literature and music, by sharing the stage with partners such as Marianne Denicourt, Anny Duperey, Lambert Wilson, and artists from the Comédie Française (Loïc Corbery, Clément Hervieu-Léger, Didier Sandre and Véronique Vella).

In this same spirit, the trio has, since 2016, created its own label to produce records with personalities from different backgrounds: academician Dominique Fernandez (CD Bazille peintre), Marina Mahler, granddaughter of the composer (CD Mahler intime, France-Musique choice), street artists La rouille, Levalet and Madame (double CD Ecrits dans une sorte de langue étrangère, France-Musique choice) or singer Juliette (double CD Marcel Proust une vie en musiques).

The 3 musicians have also featured extensively on Radio-France (France Inter, France Musique, Radio Classique, etc.) and in television reports broadcast on France 2, France 3 and LCI.

After completing her musical studies at the Paris Conservatoire and the Geneva Conservatoire, Virginie Buscail joined the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 1996, where she is currently concertmaster. As a chamber musician, she has performed with Augustin Dumay, Barbara Hannigan and Anne Queffélec. She has been teaching at the Paris CRR since 2017. She plays a 1729 violin by Domenico Montagnana.

Cellist Diana Ligeti plays with prestigious partners such as Martha Argerich, Philippe Entremont and Chang-Cook Kim. Her recordings have won critical acclaim, including a ffff from Télérama, a Choc from Le Monde de la musique and a Diamant from Opéra magazine. She is a professor at the CNSMD in Paris, the CRR in Rueil-Malmaison and, since 2018, artistic director of the American Art Schools in Fontainebleau.
