Polar tour

School audience

Dive into the biggest miscellaneous fact from the XIXe century!

What's special about it, and what can you find out about it?

Through the works and spaces of the museum, the visit tells the story of the "Massacre de Pantin", a "horrible tragedy" that shook the whole of Paris, and brought about a radical change for the French press: the advent of the "news item". Students are invited to take part in the unfolding of the criminal case to understand the killer's motives and discover his true identity. Through an interactive mediation based on the paintings and decor of the townhouse, they will take a trip back in time to confront a century and a half of the history of justice and the press, from the Second Empire to the present day. It's an opportunity to question and develop issues as crucial and hotly debated today as the death penalty, the role of the sensational press and advances in forensic science.

What visit framework and for whom?

This new-style storytelling tour is an opportunity for students to discover the works of Jean-Jacques Henner in an unusual and entertaining way. The idea is to bring together art, history and literature in the broadest sense, to offer students a stimulating and original museum experience, enabling them to develop qualities of attention, synthesis, argumentation and teamwork.
